A standout athlete in high school, he excelled as a running back and linebacker. He played college football for the Penn State Nittany Lions and was drafted by the Eagles in 1982. By his second year, he established himself as a starter and was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated, recognized for his dominant blocking skills.
