Vytautas Pranciškus Straižys was a Lithuanian astronomer born on August 20, 1936, in Utena and passed away on December 19, 2021, in Vilnius. He was a corresponding member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and served as the head of the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy at Vilnius University. Straižys was recognized for his contributions to astronomy, and in 2002 an asteroid, (68730) Straizys, was named in his honor.
