He holds a Doctorate in Geological and Mineralogical Sciences and has served as a professor and dean of the Geological-Geographical Faculty at Rostov State University from 1948 to 1951. Sedletsky also served as the deputy chairman of the North Caucasian Scientific Center of Higher Education and became an academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences in 1991.
