Vivien John was a British painter, born on March 8, 1915, in Dorset. She was the daughter of Welsh painter Augustus John and his second wife Dorelia McNeill. She attended the Slade School of Fine Art from 1932 to 1934 and held her first solo exhibition in London in 1935. Vivien also traveled extensively with her father and spent time in Paris. During World War II, she served as a nurse with the Red Cross. She continued painting while living abroad after marrying hematologist Dr. John White.
