Virginia Dill McCarty (1924–2006) was a pioneering American lawyer and public servant from Indiana. Notably, she served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana from 1977 to 1981, making history as the first woman to hold the position for a full term. McCarty also contributed significantly to women's rights, co-founding the Indiana Women's Political Caucus and actively participated in campaigns for the Equal Rights Amendment. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate, she was involved in politics, becoming the first woman nominated for judgeship and Attorney General in Indiana, and was a Democratic gubernatorial candidate.
