He specialized in medieval art and became a leading figure in Art History in Cluj-Napoca, alongside Nicolae Sabău. His contributions to the field earned him the Herder Prize and membership in the Romanian Academy in 1974. He produced numerous influential works throughout his career and passed away on November 15, 1993, in Cluj-Napoca.
