Violeta Demonte Barreto is an Argentine Chomskyan linguist, born on June 27, 1944, in Paraná. She is a professor of Spanish language at the Autonomous University of Madrid, where she has worked since 1985 after obtaining her PhD in Hispanic Philology in 1975. Demonte has published works on syntax, including 'Teoría sintáctica' and 'Detrás de la palabra,' and played a significant role in directing the 'Gramática descriptiva de la lengua española.' She also served as Director General of Research in Spain's Ministry of Education and received the Ramón Menéndez Pidal National Research Award in 2014.
