Viola B. Sanders was an American naval officer born on February 21, 1921, in Mississippi. She enlisted in the WAVES during World War II and held various positions including communications officer and regimental commander. Notably, she served as Deputy Director of Women in the Navy from 1958 to 1960 and became its 6th Director in 1962. A dedicated advocate for women's roles in the Navy, she retired in 1966 and later engaged in civic and veterans affairs in Mississippi.
