He participated in the 1981 Junior World Championships and made his senior World Championship debut in 1982, finishing seventh. He competed in the 1984 Winter Olympics, placing sixth in the 1000 meters and eighth in the 1500 meters. In 1986, he finished fourth at the European Championships and won a bronze medal at the World Allround Championships. He began competing in the World Cup in 1987 and completed his last races in 1991.
