Vestana Cadue was the first female chairperson of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas, elected in April 1953. She successfully led efforts against the termination of her tribe following House Concurrent Resolution 108. Born on January 31, 1901, in the Kickapoo Reservation, she was taken to the Genoa Indian Industrial School. Cadue advocated for her people, testifying to Congress against the termination policy and preserving tribal welfare. She married Albert Cadue and had five children. Vestana passed away on June 22, 1974, and is buried in the Kickapoo cemetery.
