Vernon Bellecourt, known as WaBun-Inini, was a prominent Chippewa activist born in White Earth, Minnesota. He was the older brother of Clyde Bellecourt and co-founded the American Indian Movement (AIM) in 1968 alongside his brother and Dennis Banks. His activism included participating in key events like the 1972 Treaty March, the 1973 Wounded Knee incident, and the 1992 Super Bowl protests in Washington. He was imprisoned for throwing blood at the Guatemalan embassy and served as a member of the White Earth tribal council.
