Veniamin Vasilyevich Volkov was a prominent Soviet and Russian ophthalmologist, born on January 20, 1921, in Tashkent and passed away on February 21, 2019, in St. Petersburg. He obtained his medical doctorate in 1964 and was a professor by 1967. Volkov served as the head of the Ophthalmology Department at the Military Medical Academy from 1967 to 1989 and was a key figure in military ophthalmology as the chief ophthalmologist for the Soviet Ministry of Defense. He was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor in 1982 and contributed significantly to military medicine and ophthalmology.
