V. Nanammal was the oldest yoga teacher in India, born on February 24, 1920, and passing away on October 26, 2019. Over a span of more than 45 years, she trained nearly a million students and taught around 100 students daily. Her dedication to yoga training significantly contributed to the field, with over 600 of her students becoming yoga instructors worldwide. For her remarkable contributions to the promotion and spread of yoga, she received the National Women Power Award in 2016 and the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, in 2018.
