Uttam Prasad Karmacharya, widely known as Uttam Nepali, was a versatile visual artist, writer, and actor from Nepal. Born on April 30, 1937, he was recognized as a pioneer in abstract art and played a significant role in establishing formal art in Nepal. His abstract and expressionist paintings were exhibited across Asia during the 1960s and 70s. In addition to acting in two films in the early 1960s, he published poetry and was a lifelong member of the Nepal Academy from 2000. He passed away on July 7, 2021, due to cardiovascular issues.
