Urs Widmer was a Swiss politician, born on December 20, 1927, in Winterthur. He served as the mayor of Winterthur for 24 years, from 1966 until 1990, making him one of the longest-serving mayors in the city's history. Initially a member of the Democratic Party (DP), he later joined the Free Democratic Party (FDP) in 1971. Widmer passed away on September 2, 2018, in his birthplace of Winterthur.
