Unita Zilma Blackwell (March 18, 1933 - May 13, 2019) was an American civil rights activist and the first African American woman elected as mayor in Mississippi. She led the Nonviolent Coordinating Committee project and was instrumental in organizing voter campaigns for African Americans in Mississippi. Additionally, Blackwell founded the Friendship Association of the United States and China, aimed at promoting cultural exchange between the two countries. In 2006, her autobiography, 'Barefoot', was published, highlighting her activism.
