Born on December 16, 1915, in Palermo, California, he became a central figure in the Dixieland revival in San Francisco, alongside Lu Watters and Bob Scobey. His music and performances were influential in popularizing the genre during the mid-20th century. Murphy passed away on May 30, 1987, in San Francisco.
