Turghun Almas (October 30, 1924 - September 11, 2001) was an Uyghur historian and poet born in Kashgar. He faced criticism for his support of ethnic separatists and was imprisoned multiple times due to his political activities. He became an editor for the newspaper 'Azatliq' in 1950. Almas was well-known for his book 'Uyghurlar' and began researching Uyghur history in 1980. His work was banned following its publication in 1992. He reportedly remained under house arrest until his death in Ürümqi.
