Tsutomu Takeuchi (竹内 勉) was a renowned Japanese folk song researcher born on May 30, 1937, in Tokyo. He began collecting folk songs in his teens and later trained under Yoshikoe Machida. In 1965, he received the Agency for Cultural Affairs Arts Festival Encouragement Prize for supervising the record 'Min'yō Genryū Kō.' He was responsible for folk song programs on NHK radio for many years and received a letter of thanks in 2000 for NHK's 75th anniversary. In 1999, he established the 'Living Monument' in honor of his 50 years of folk song collection in Kyoto.
