He introduced Sigmund Freud’s ideas into Norwegian academia and analyzed Knut Hamsun's literary works, notably in 'Livets Cirkel' (1929). Braatøy was a pacifist and connected with the Mot Dag movement during the interwar period. His notable works include 'Pasienten og legen' (1952) and the reissues of 'De nervøse sinn' I and II in the 1960s.
