She worked primarily with wood and stone materials but also created works from clay. One of her notable pieces, 'Hurtigløber,' completed in 1982, is located by Brøndbyhallen. Ólafsson was a member of the artists' collective Kammeraterne, and she received several awards including the Eckersberg Medal in 1948 and the Oscar Carlson Prize in 1940 for her work 'Mand og kvinde.'
