Toshio Shiga (March 27, 1923 - October 19, 2009) was a renowned Japanese structural engineer and expert in seismic engineering. He was a professor emeritus at Tohoku University and contributed significantly to the advancement of seismology and earthquake-resistant architecture in Japan. As a member of the Japanese National Academy of Sciences, he chaired committees to enhance earthquake engineering practices. His innovative 'Shiga Map' method for evaluating seismic performance profoundly improved earthquake resistance in buildings, influencing the 1980 revision of Japan's Building Standards Law.
