Torunn Ystaas is a Norwegian author and stage director born on May 26, 1943, in Voss, Norway. She holds a degree in Nordic language and literature and debuted as a playwright at Bergen's Den Nationale Scene in 1979. After studying directing in New York, she worked with several theaters. Ystaas has written novels, plays, a children's book, and music dramas for churches. An advocate for environmental and architectural conservation, she is involved with the historic Ystås farm. She has received several awards, including the Amalie Skram-prisen.
