Hailing from Yamanashi Prefecture, he competes in the T44 classification with a height of 178 cm and weight of 64 kg. He is notable for being the first Japanese athlete to compete in high jump using a prosthetic leg, making his debut at the 2000 Sydney Paralympics and achieving placements in five consecutive Games. He holds both Asian and national records, being the second person in the world to clear 2.00 meters.
