Tomikatsu Amano was a Japanese swimmer born on September 14, 1919, in Nogata, Fukuoka Prefecture. He became renowned for setting a world record in the 1500m freestyle at the 14th Kanto Swimming Championships on August 10, 1938, with a time of 18:58.8, which also included a world record for the 1000m split at 12:33.8. His record stood for 11 years until it was broken by Shirō Hashizume during the qualifiers for the 1949 U.S. National Championships.
