Thomas Charles Metcalfe was a New Zealand rugby union international born on May 13, 1909, in Invercargill. He played for the Pirates club and represented Southland in 63 matches, captaining the team to victory over the Wallabies in 1931. As a loose forward, he earned two caps for the All Blacks in the early 1930s, starting with his debut against the Wallabies in 1931 at Eden Park, marking the end of the 2–3–2 scrum formation. In 1932, he participated in the first Test match during the All Blacks' tour of Australia.
