Tom Chessell was an Australian rower born on April 1, 1914. He served as the coxswain for the Australian eight at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki. The crew included Dave Anderson, Bob Tinning, Ernest Chapman, Geoff Williamson, Mervyn Finlay, Edward Pain, and Phil Cayzer. They initially finished second in their heat and third in the semifinal but advanced to the finals, where they secured a bronze medal, finishing behind the American team and the Soviet Union.
