Mathijs Gerardus Nicolaas Schutgens, known as Tjeu Schutgens, was a Dutch politician born on December 3, 1928, in Sweikhuizen. He served in various municipal roles after graduating in law from the Catholic University of Nijmegen. Initially working for the municipality of Kerkrade, he later became the mayor of Thorn and then Elsloo. Schutgens was also the chairman of Stadsgewest Roermond, which merged into Gewest Midden-Limburg. He passed away on April 6, 2001, in Roermond at the age of 72.
