Timothy Wilson Spencer, also known as The Southside Strangler, was an American serial killer active in 1987, responsible for a series of rapes and murders in Richmond and Arlington, Virginia. His criminal activities led to the wrongful conviction of another man, David Vasquez, for a previous murder in 1984. Notably, Spencer was the first serial killer in the U.S. convicted based on DNA evidence, which also cleared Vasquez in 1989. Spencer's case highlighted issues related to forensic science and wrongful convictions.
