Tim Flannery is an Australian paleontologist and mammalogist born on January 28, 1956, in Melbourne, Victoria. He serves as the Commissioner of the Australian Climate Commission, an independent body that provides climate change information to the Australian public. In 2007, he was named Australian of the Year. Flannery is currently a professor and co-chair of environmental sustainability at Macquarie University and also the chair of the Copenhagen Climate Council, an international group focused on climate change awareness. His views on phasing out traditional coal-fired power plants are often controversial.
