Þuríður Backman is an Icelandic politician associated with the Left-Green Movement. Born on January 8, 1948, in Reykjavík, she served as a member of the Althing from 1999 to 2013, initially representing the Eastern Constituency and later the Northeast Constituency from 2003. Backman held various positions including Vice Chair of the Left-Green Parliamentary Group and Deputy Speaker of Parliament. She also participated in the Budget Committee and chaired the Icelandic delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
