He worked with companies such as Norsk Bergverk, Norsk Hydro, and Saga Petroleum, contributing to significant oil projects including the Sèmè oil field in Benin. He held roles as CEO of NUTEC and Statoil Nigeria, and served as an advisor to the Angolan Ministry of Petroleum. Mellingen was also active in philanthropy, supporting war-affected children and women's empowerment in Mali.
