Thorleif Østereng was a Norwegian jazz musician, journalist, and bandleader born on March 28, 1912, in Oslo. Despite having a deformed right hand due to an accident in 1923, he became a prominent figure in Norway's jazz scene. He was involved with several orchestras, including the Columbia Brothers and Radiostorbandet. Østereng was also a program secretary at NRK and hosted the program Jazzklubben. He is recognized for translating Louis Armstrong's autobiography and for his enthusiastic coverage of the Moldejazz festival.
