Thorleif Edgar Nilsen (February 23, 1922 - December 3, 2013) was a prominent figure in Askim for over 40 years. He served as the mayor (Labour Party) for nine years from 1956 to 1965, and then as a municipal chief for 18 years, with a four-year hiatus as chairman of the Norwegian Association of Local Authorities. Nilsen played a crucial role in shaping modern Askim and held significant positions at the national level. A bust of him was unveiled on September 13, 2009, outside the town hall in Askim.
