Thomas Hoskyns Leonard (1948–2023) was a prominent British statistician known for his contributions to Bayesian statistics, particularly in categorical data analysis and prior informative density estimation. He played a pivotal role in founding the Statistics Department at the University of Warwick and served as the Chair of Statistics at the University of Edinburgh from 1995 until his retirement in 2001. Leonard was instrumental in improving Bayesian education and research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and helped establish the International Society for Bayesian Analysis in 1992.
