Sister Theresa Varela, born in Cape Verde in 1937, is a nun based in San Marcos Sierras, Córdoba, Argentina. She has presided over the Misión Esperanza Foundation since 1997. After feeling a call to serve, she moved to Portugal and then Italy for her religious vocation. She later studied in the U.S. before moving to Argentina in 1971. Theresa founded the first house of her congregation in Brazil in 1983, later focusing on assisting the needy in Argentina from 1991 onwards.
