Theo P.J. van den Hout is a Dutch–American historian and author, born on October 12, 1953. He holds the position of Arthur and Joann Rasmussen professor of Western Civilization and of Hittite and Anatolian Languages at the University of Chicago's Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures. His notable works include 'A History of Hittite Literacy' and 'The Elements of Hittite.' An editor of the Chicago Hittite Dictionary, he is also recognized as a fellow of the Guggenheim Foundation and a corresponding member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.
