Jigme Pema Wangchen, born in 1963, is the 12th Gyalwang Drukpa, also known as Drukchen Rinpoche, and is revered as the highest spiritual leader of the Drugpa-Kagyü tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. He was born in Tso Pema, India, where his parents had traveled to attend a ceremonial event. After being recognized as the reincarnation of the 11th Drukchen Rinpoche, he was formally enthroned in 1967. He studied under notable teachers and has since led several monasteries and centers, residing mainly at Druk Thupten Sangag Choeling in Darjeeling.
