She served as a Member of Parliament for the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) representing the Batticaloa electoral district from 2004 to 2010. Selected by the Tamil Tigers, she experienced political changes after the civil war, joining the United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) in 2010. Despite her efforts, she did not secure a seat in that election, finishing last among her party's candidates.
