He is recognized for establishing the first ice core research branch in India at the National Center for Antarctic and Ocean Research in Goa, which began studies using Antarctic ice cores. In 2002, he set up India's first ice core laboratory in Goa, contributing significantly to the understanding of oceanographic processes and climate change.
