Tessa Sanderson is a British javelin thrower born on March 14, 1956, in Jamaica to Ghanaian parents. She moved to Wolverhampton, England, and represented the UK in six Olympic Games (1976-1996). Her most significant achievement was winning a gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, making her the first Black British woman to win an Olympic gold. She also secured a silver medal in the 1978 European Athletics Championships in Prague. Her personal best throw is 73.58 meters, achieved in 1983 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
