Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, born Lhamo Dondrub on July 6, 1935, is the current and longest-serving Dalai Lama. He is an important monk of the Gelug school, the youngest school of Tibetan Buddhism, with the Ganden Tripas as the nominal head. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, he is renowned for his passionate advocacy for Tibetans worldwide.
