She passed away from colorectal cancer on March 3, 1984, in Kamakura, Kanagawa, where she was buried at Jufuku-ji. Hoshino attended the Christian Women's University in Tokyo after completing her schooling, showcasing her commitment to education alongside her literary pursuits.
