Taoufik Baccar (1927 - April 24, 2017) was a prominent Tunisian literary critic and university professor of Arabic. As one of the founders of Tunisian academia, he significantly influenced the literary landscape in Tunisia. Renowned for his criticism, Baccar played a pivotal role in shaping Tunisian literature and supported numerous writers and publishing houses. He was known for his contributions to contemporary Tunisian fiction, especially with his work on the 'Eyes of Contemporary' series. Baccar's last public words in 2014 urged respect for the Arabic language.
