Tanushree Debbarma is the first woman IAS officer from Tripura, India. She achieved this milestone by being the first woman from the state to pass the IAS exam, securing fourth place in the ST category in 2006. She studied at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi before choosing to prepare for the IAS exam instead of joining a multi-national IT firm. Previously the Director of Tribal Welfare in Karnataka, she is now the secretary to the Government of Tripura. During the COVID-19 lockdown, she helped bring back residents stranded in other states.
