Tansui Kikuchi (September 8, 1902 - April 1, 1990) was a Japanese shakuhachi performer and folk singer born in Yuda Town, Iwate Prefecture. His real name was Shigenao. After training as an apprentice, he moved to Tokyo, where he studied under Goto Mosui. In 1950, he founded the Japan Folk Song Association, leading to significant development in the genre, including the first publication of folk songs in Western musical notation. He also played the Okura-uro, a hybrid instrument combining shakuhachi and flute, collaborating with the NHK Symphony Orchestra.
