Born on April 26, 1915, he served as a professor at the University of Tokyo and was the former president of Kanagawa University. He is well-known for his research on seawater desalination using ion-exchange resin membranes. Throughout his career, he held leadership roles in various scientific organizations, including serving as president of the Japan Society of Seawater Science and the Electro-dialysis Research Society. Yamabe passed away on July 21, 1992.
