He was referred to as the 'Jewelry King of Japan' and held considerable influence in the political and financial sectors, becoming recognized as one of the largest fixers in post-war Japan alongside figures like Yoshio Kodama. Ōtani maintained close connections with former Prime Minister Takeo Fukuda, contributing to his enigmatic status as a fixer while living in a large estate surrounded by numerous servants.
