Takao Tahara is a Japanese politician who served as the mayor of Bizen, Okayama Prefecture for one term. He previously served as a member of the Hinase Town Assembly, the mayor of Hinase Town, and a member of the Bizen City Assembly. He was born in Fukagawa Village (present-day Bizen City), Okayama Prefecture. He graduated from Hinase Town Fukagawa Elementary School, Hinase Town Fukagawa Junior High School, Hyogo Prefectural Aiseisan Industry High School, and the Japan Shorinji Kempo Martial Arts School. He worked for Samsung Belt Co., Ltd., an asbestos company, and then for Morishita Netting Co., Ltd. He was first elected to the Hinase Town Assembly in 1975. He was elected mayor of Hinase Town in 1986 and served three terms. In 2000, he founded Eco-Town Bizen Co., Ltd. and became its representative director. He was re-elected to the Hinase Town Assembly in 2003. In 2005, Hinase Town merged with Bizen City and Yoshinaga Town to form the new Bizen City. He became a member of the Bizen City Assembly due to a special provision for incumbent members. He announced his intention to run for mayor of Bizen in the next election on December 8, 2016. In the Bizen mayoral election held on April 9, 2017, he defeated incumbent Takeshi Yoshimura and former city council member Mamoru Okita to win his first election. He was inaugurated as mayor on April 24. In the Bizen mayoral election held on April 11, 2021, he ran for re-election but lost to Yoshimura, whom he had defeated in the previous election.
