Takahisa Han'ya was a Japanese geochemist born on December 8, 1920, in Moji, Fukuoka Prefecture (now Kitakyushu). He graduated from the University of Tokyo in 1942 and earned his Ph.D. in 1954. He worked as an assistant at Nagoya University, and later as an associate professor, and then a professor at the former Tokyo Metropolitan University, retiring in 1984 as an emeritus professor. He served as the director of the MV Research Institute and was known for criticizing government agencies for not publishing water quality analysis results for the Watarase River and Minamata.
